Atlantis
Island The legend of
Atlantis begun when the Greek philosopher Plato (427-347
B.C) wrote two dialogues by the name Timaeus and Critias. Atlantis "was" a large island in the the Atlantic Ocean (west of the Straits of Gibraltar) with a high civilization that flourished about 9000 B.C. Plato described Atlantis as an ideal state. The ruler of Atlantis according to Plato was Atlas, one of Poseidon’s sons. But when the inhabitants of the Island became self-righteous and arrogant, the god’s flooded the Island in one day. Many people believe that the tale is complete fiction, Other believes the legend was inspired by the catastrophic event that destroyed the Minoan civilization on Crete and Thera, because there is a similar story in Egypt about an Island in the west that also was destroyed in some catastrophically event. The Egyptian legend they believe are about the Minoan civilization. But some think that the story is a description of a lost and forgotten culture, and that the people at Atlantis had invented flying machines and a technique to gain power from big crystals (Some kind of atomic energy). They say that a disagreement on how to use the crystal energy ended in a war that destroyed the Island. Many New age movements are inspired by the utopia-like myth of Atlantis; they believe that the inhabitants on the Island lived in peace and harmony (babble, jabber, cute) before the destructive war broke out. |
